Hi Mike! My name is Deanna. I wanted to thank you for sharing your story. I was really touched by it. I am happy that you have overcome so much! I am currently a student at West Virginia University where I am pursuing a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology. Dr. St. Louis is one of my professors and I read the book Living With Stuttering as part of his class. I must say at first I thought the book might be boring, but it taught me so much and I am so thankful he composed a book which focuses on people and their life stories. I learned the "human" side to stuttering which a regular classroom text book cannot provide. What I mean by this is the fact that there is more to stuttering than just the core behaviors. There are the emotions, feelings, the fears and so much more that goes along with stuttering. However I was not aware of any of this until I read the life stories of those who stutter. It really is important to share your stories because it really does make a difference and it helps individuals like myself understand stuttering better. So, thank you for sharing and for making a difference. I hope that I can also make a difference in the lives of others by becoming an understanding and compassionate speech pathologist.
