Hi Courtney,
I'm pleased that my story has given you a greater insight into the life of someone who stutters. Am I correct in thinking that you are a speech/language pathologist (or maybe training for such a role)?
Stuttering is hugely misunderstood by the public and, frequently, by members of one's own family. I feel that persons who stutter can play an important part in making others aware of the problems that we encounter. I regularly give talks to community organisations about my lifetime of stuttering and find that they are so misinformed.
I strongly believe that SLPs (and those in training) would benefit immensely from having greater contact with persons who stutter. I certainly found this to be the case when I gave a series of talks at an American university in 2001.
Your comments are appreciated.
Kindest regards
Alan Badmington
