Hi Vickie,

Thank you for your contribution.

You enquire how your son can prepare for saying his wedding vows? Well!, I am now a great advocate of positive thinking and positive visualization. Prior to a forthcoming speaking situation, I refuse to harbour negative thoughts or dwell upon past unpleasant experiences. Instead, I create positive images of how I wish to see myself speak.

If I think I am going to have difficulty - then I WILL experience difficulty. If I visualize myself speaking well, then I find that I, invariably, enjoy a successful outcome.

One further point - has your son considered joining Toastmasters? I have derived so much pleasure and confidence since enrolling with three public speaking clubs here in the UK. It will feel strange at first (seeing himself in such a role) but, if he can overcome the initial discomfort, I think it would be invaluable preparation for his wedding day (vows and speech).

I now find that I am totally at ease when speaking in such situations and seek every opportunity to rise to my feet. A far cry from my wedding day disappointment!

I wish him well.

Kindest regards

Alan Badmington
