Hi Emily,
An brief addendum to my earlier response.
I have just read an interesting story where a German bride was effectively jilted at the altar when police arrested her husband-to-be shortly prior to the ceremony.
Apparently, he had illegally re-entered the country after having been deported midway through a five-year jail sentence for drugs offences. He will now spend the remaining 700 days in prison.
It occurred to me that maybe he was a person who stutters and deliberately instigated his arrest to avoid saying the vows? That would make a good plot for a novel, don't you think? Who knows, she might even marry the clergyman instead.
