Suppose a parent doesn’t feel their child has a fluency disorder, partly due to the fact that he/she is doing quite well academically. Yet the child is exhibiting obvious signs of serious dysfluencies. The parents are adamantly opposed to their child being in a pull-out program, for fear of being held back academically, and refuses to even consider it. What is the best way to intervene in this situation? Is there anything, according to law, to overrule a parent’s decision against pulling their child out for remediation, or is there nothing that can be done against the parent’s decision? Thanks for your input.
