Thank you for this valuable overview of IDEA rules and regulations as they specifically apply to speech and language disabilities. Your paper will serve as a guideline for helping me (as a public school SLP) and the other members of the IEP team to make more appropriate determination and placement decisions. Under the IEP section "Supports for school personnel" do the training opportunities need to be specific in nature (such as listing possible workshops) or is it appropriate to state training needs in general terms (like "training in the area of fluency disorders will be provided to the classroom teacher")? Thanks again for this very useful article.
