Thanks Vikesh, and congratulations on having the courage to confront your fears. You’re right—acceptance is key. Unfortunately, it’s also difficult. One thing that might help some people is to stop viewing their progress in this area as a glass that’s half empty. You (not you personally, but the general you that lazy writers use) want to continually be more and more accepting of your own differences, but you also need to congratulate yourself on whatever success you’ve had. If someone never ordered in restaurants, made phone calls, or made new friends & now does these things; or even if someone says stuttering isn’t the only thing he thinks about any more, he’s come a long way. He should be allowed to feel good about himself instead of thinking he’s somehow come up short just because he’s not yet ready to openly stutter on Letterman.
