Brett, I really enjoyed your article. I am the mom of a five year old apraxic girl who has disfluent "episodes". I was very interested to read about how WWS may allow others to speak for them. I've noticed that my daughter will often "clam up" if she is trying very hard to get out the words and she is either disfluent or having articulation problems. She will then wait for someone else to finish her thoughts; if I am around, she looks to me for help.

As a professional who works with the pediatric population, can you offer any advice to me for helping my daughter to become a more confident speaker? Due to her motor speech difficulties, she suffers from low self esteem and is the type of child that will "shut down" when frustrated.

Rhonda
