Hi Brett,

Thanks for your thoughtful response and excellent suggestions. We've been to therapy for *both* apraxia and stuttering, and we've managed to implement many of the suggestions you made, with great success.

Slowing down my speech, making sure she is not interrupted when trying to speak (which is tough sometimes being in a family of 4 kids!), making her communication attempts positive -- all these work really well.

I love your advice about making sure she understands she is not *bad* at talking, she just talks differently.

Our fluency SLP actually treats many children with oral motor speech disorders, and has mentioned that the number of children that "straddle" both conditions seems to be on the rise.

I'm actually the president of the Canadian apraxia support group, ECHO, so I try to be on top of all the information out there about this condition. We have a website at http://apraxiaontario.homestead.com

Thanks again Brett. I appreciate your taking the time to answer my question.

Rhonda
