Kari, I just wanted to tell you that I agree 100% with you concerning women who stutter and their careers. It is so sad that some women have to settle for less demanding jobs due to their stuttering. It is not fair. I have a friend who stutters and she is currently in college and has almost completed the physician assistant program. She told me recently that when she is talking to patients, she does in fact stutter. She thinks it is due to nerves ( talking to patients is something new for her). However she told me that patients have looked at her funny when she did stutter. It made her feel uncomfortable. It is as if she is being judged because she stutters. I told my friend that it would be ok. She is a very intelligent and caring person. As I read your paper, I knew exactly where you were coming from. Women need to choose a job based on their skills and qualifications, not their stuttering, and through your paper hopefully women will realize that.
