Hello Ms.O'Connor,

I was moved by all four of the papers written by your panel; however, when I read yours, I felt particular empathy. I do not stutter, but, like most people, I had a particular anguish (in my case it was a physical imperfection) that I had to learn to work through. It was most difficult during my adolescence;my reaction was deep-rooted anger and depression.

I am currently a graduate student in speech-language pathology struggling to understand stuttering and the causes. I was intrigued by your goal to find the root of your problems; you concluded that the root was the basic stuttering. Can you tell me more about how realizing this has helped you? What therapy processes, in particular, have helped you get back to the base? Have you been able to peel back those layers of secondary behaviors, to in fact undo many or all of them?

Any personal accounts of your journey through therapy would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Cynthia Prince Cynthia Prince
