Thank you all for your points of view about being a "minority within a minority".

Even as a man, I could identify with much of what you wrote about. I grew up in a small town; as a boy stutterer who was Jewish I felt different and strange and defective. It took time to get past all of those feelings. Some of this process involved my participating in self-help groups for people who stutter, and mutual support with people like the four of you.

Brett, when I first me my wife she did all of the talking for us both. Of course it was easier for me, but was not good for either of us. After our first year or two together she tired of this and forced me to begin to speak for myself.

I appreciate all of your perspectives on this topic.
