Kari,

As the father of 3 girls, I've been meaning to read the Women and Stuttering essay for a while. The point you make about women at the top of the ladder was very interesting. As an NSA member and SLP, I have heard a couple of male CEO's who stutter talk. And I can visualize them as effective corporate leaders. I've never seen a woman in a similar situation. To be honest, as a male (even one who is married to a wife who is the primary breadwinner), I have trouble visualizing a WWS in this role. Is this because I have never been exposed to one (lets get the NSA to have a women who stutters who is a CEO as a keynote speaker next year), or is because as a man (and most corporate leaders are men) a women who struggles to talk just doesn't fit our vision of a powerful women. Sure a man who stutters can be a CEO.. he's a fighter who dealt with a problem and fights with it each day, just like he fights for the company.... But a women CEO? Do the men who promote her, like many men, have some warped view of the "executive" women that is in conflict with stuttering. I don't know....
