I appreciated reading Nora's paper on self-image issues. I'd like to highlight another point. I think many men are raised to be perfectionists, so the "imperfection" of stuttering devastases us unduly. I think it's no accident that many of the leaders in the stuttering self-help movement are women, and that women are overrepresented in NSA in proportion to the prevalance of female stutterers. Perhaps it's because women in general--and women who stutter in particular--have much to teach us men about shedding the need for adherence to a societal prescribed standard of perfection. --Barry
