Thank you so much for your comments Kevin and for taking the time to read the Woman and Stuttering essays.
I personally have chosen to not spend much time in reading self help books, although I believe they can be invaluable. From my experience I find that all too often some people get stuck in the books and forget to live.
But, when it comes to self esteem and self image in young girls I believe we NEED to do everything possible to ensure our children are being fed with tools to build self esteem and create a healthy self image.
I'd recommend the book "I'm Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem" by Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell (ages 4 - 8) to read with your children.
For your wife and you I would suggest reading "Reviving Ophelia: Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls" by Mary Phipher as well as "Schoolgirls: Young Women, Self-Esteem, and the Confidence Gap" by Peggy Orenstein.
Good luck Kevin. Your girls are fortunate to have such dedicated and concerned parents!
