Nora, as you know, leadership does not require elective office. The women you've mentioned--and many others--have made tremendous contributions to NSA without serving on the board. They are no less leaders.

Likewise, a disproportional amount of NSA leadership has come from the lesbian and gay community--chapter leaders like you (Nora), Liz Kapstein and Bradley Lemmond; workshop leaders like Jeff Pulling and myself; and so on. But to my knowledge (correct me, someone, if I'm wrong), we've never had an openly LGBT board member.

These imbalances in formal leadership should be addressed, but without failing to acknowledge the tremendous leadership that women and queers have offered to the self-help movement.
