I agree wholeheartedly with your point about keynote speakers and role models. At my first self-help convention (Third International Congress in San Francisco, 1992), the first keynoter was Kare Anderson, whose words that day changed my life. No keynote speaker since then has ever come close. Offhand, I can think of only one female keynoter since then, Annie Glenn.
