Amy, It took some guts to write the letter. However, I knew realistically that it would be of benefit to me. I would not have all the staff wondering about my speech. What I did not anticipate was the decreased anxiety I felt the first day of work. I could sit anywhere and once I opened my mouth, people knew who I was and were very friendly. I believe an important part of the letter was to be positive and state that I was ready to be part of the school team. Also stating my skills beyond fluency. Heck, they want a slp who can help kids that stutter. But they also want one that can help kids with language problems read and write and comprehend. I think when you advertise, you need to know your audience and meet their needs also.
