Hi Mary Margaret,

Yes, it does SOUND like the perfect way to reduce tensions on both sides. In this case it really can be easier to say than do it. A person with a huge iceberg below the waterline - such as covert stutterers - can often have a TERRIBLE time getting up the courage to do this. "Just reach down and pick up that snake. He won't hurt you. It's easy." Listen baby, YOU can do that if YOU want to, but ** I'm ** not going in the same ROOM with that slimy creature! I'm outta here!

Get my point? While ** I ** can talk about my stuttering all day long doesn't mean that everyone can do it. I had to put myself in that snake scenario to understand why other people are so reluctant to do this. I'm like Harrison Ford who said in the movie, Raiders of the Lost Arc, "Snakes! Why does it always have to be snakes?" <smile> I hate snakes!

But you're right. IF you can do it, it really does relieve a massive amount of tension on both sides.

Thanks for the comment. Hope you're enjoying the conference!

My best,

Russ
