Hi Blanche,

Whatever therapy is introduced (even mechanical devices), persons who stutter still need to face their fears in order to challenge the limiting beliefs that they have developed during their lives.

It is not uncommon for techniques to be successful in a controlled environment (eg the therapist's office or a course setting). However, the fears still remain, particularly when the PWS ventures out into the real world. Overcoming these fears is a gradual process.

Expanding one's comfort zones is not a therapy, as such. It occurs when persons challenge themselves by moving into unfamiliar environments/surroundings. In the case of a PWS, it generally involves doing things that he/she would usually have avoided.

You can expand comfort zones with, or without, the use of any technique or approach. I happened to learn a new technique that gave me the confidence and impetus to confront my fears.

Thank you for your contribution.

Kindest regards

Alan Badmington
