I have to say that this paper made a lot of sense to me. I also have to say that it had to take a lot of courage on your part to put yourself through those situations in order to widen your comfort zones, especially public speaking. I agree with you in that the only way you can become comfortable with anything is to just go out and experience it. However, I believe that this can be much harder for a person who stutters, as I am sure you know. I also agree that avoiding unfamiliar situations can cause a great deal of stress in the long run. By avoiding such situations, the stuttering not only does not get better, but it also prevents the person who stutters from facing the negative feelings that accompany the stuttering itself. Getting people who stutter out into the real world to experience new people and situtaion should be a vital part of speech therapy as you have clearly shown. I was just wondering what it took for you to get to the point where you were confident enough with your stuttering to speak in those high stress situations. This article offers a lot of useful tips on ways to expand your comfort zone. Thanks a lot.
