Hi Alan,

It was nice reading your article over and over again. I am 27, and have been stammered for many years now. Sometimes it gets really bad, and I can't even talk for a while. It takes me quite an effort to pronounce my own name - something that you faced earlier in your life.

I am actually losing potential jobs because I am too scared to answer the phone, or I stammer when I talk to the interviewer. I'm slightly better with face-face conversations. I also can't seem to get the starting right when I am into any conversation, it takes me a while to say "Hello" ( or "Hi", my substituted word over the phone).

Do you think my age would be a hindrance to my gaining acceptable fluency, especially over the phone? Would you also be able to suggest generic techniques on how to initiate the talk? I think once I get the converation going, it gathers pace by itself.. like a snowball.
