Steve, I really appreciated receiving your message and you ask a very good question. First, may I congratulate you on leading a successful life as a stutterer and your work with children. First of all, almost all diseases, illnesses and congental problems occur more frequently in males than females and we don't live as long as females. We just seem to have weaker systems than females. We also know that males mature slower than females and yet we still frequently expect more of our male children. It's ok for our female childred to cry, but boys must "be big boys" and not cry. We tend to expect more from our boy children, sooner than our girl children when we should be expecting less. These may be some of the reasons why 75-80% of stutterers are males. Thank you again for your message and my very best wishes. Dorvan H Breitenfeldt
