Hi Donald! I am a graduate student in Speech Language Pathology and was very interested by your article. I guess I was expecting you to say that your strong faith in the Lord has allowed you to accept stuttering as a part of who you are, so I was surprised when you stated that you feel that the stuttering is like an alien inside of you. Have your feelings about stuttering and how you view it changed over the years?

I completely understand your frustrations about not knowing what causes stuttering. I used to be a pre-med student before I changed fields and I am always looking for the cause. I think one of the things that scares me most about treating stuttering is not knowing what causes it. No one does. At least no one knows what causes every type of stuttering. And it scares me that I can't fix it. Like you said, if I knew what caused it, I could fix it too.

I appreciate your willingness to share your story with us! Keep up the good work! maggie
