Dear Dr. Cooper, This was the first time for me to read your article. I am a school-based slp, and it has come to me at a good time. We need to have numbers and strive for accountability on our ieps, and that frequency count seems to be ever so important in that annual goal. However, I have learned that it can get in the way at times, and your article supports my belief that with some people, the frequency factor can only help to develop feelings of inadequacy and guilt. (I appreciate your comment on using the term "re-emergence" rather than relapse when fluency fluctuates. I am always looking for the right words to use.) I am trying to come up with an annual goal for an older student to gain knowledge about fluency/stuttering through various media. I think that by exploring the Stuttering Homepage and this conference, he may get some insight into the cognitive and affective compenents of the disorder/syndrome. I feel your article will be a good place to start. Thanks for sharing with us.
