Thanks for your interest in the CPS syndrome.

Most individuals experiencing the CPS syndrome continue to experience disfluencies throughout their lives with periods of greater and periods of less stuttering. Those who been successful in "conquering" CPS generally feel that they are capable of maintaining the feeling of fluency control even in the periods in which they are experiencing a significant number of disfluencies. That is, although they are having trouble with their speech, they feel they are able to communicate effectively. Effective therapy and their own perseverance would have enabled them to maintain a feeling of control. Individuals who have learned to successfully cope with CPS report that although they continue to experience disfluencies, their lives are not controlled by their speech problem and that the "psychic drain" of having to cope with it on a recurring basis declines over the years. Again, while CPS may not be "curable" it can certainlu be conquered.

Hope this is responsive to you question.

Gene
