Sheri, Thanks for your comments. It seems there is a need to "mystify" stuttering. This adds to the stress of clinicians who might be uncomfortable working with behaviors that seems so unusual. All we have to do is look around us to see similar response patterns. For some reason, when these responses are linked with speech, they are treated as unique. Good luck in your graduate work.
