I am a graduate student in speech language pathology at West Virginia University. Our Stuttering/Voice professor asked us to take part in this conference. I must say that your article "WOWED" me. I give you much credit for being able to keep your stuttering on a covert level. I can only imagine how hard that must be; however, it shows that you have great strength to deal with it on your own. Many clients seek speech therapy looking for a 100% automatic fix not realizing that it takes work from both to make a lasting change. I feel it is also important that you realize your stress is, maybe not a cause, but a result of your covert stuttering. When I read that you spoke with a psychiatrist for 5 years and nothing was ever said about your stammering/stuttering, I was amazed. Do you think this means that by hiding this from your friends and family all these years has caused your panic attacks? Does your wife ever ask you why you kept this from her all these years? And, why do you not want to share this behavior with your children? Thank you for sharing your story with us!
