In my view, it is the same reason why many SLPs avoid dealing with stuttering, they do not understand the complexity of the disorder. Many families tell me that their SLP simply feels that the speech disruptions are part of the vocal tics and can not be helped. However, as both John and I have learned, speech therapy can be highly effective in helping children with TS communicate.
