There are two important ways to use metaphors in therapy. One is to make our opinions, theories ... about stuttering clear. To make their meaning deeper. The other (and maybe more interesting one) is to learn how our clients view (their) stuttering. We can use these metaphores as a starting point for cognitive restructuring. To my opinion the clue to succesfull therapy is to get your client on the right trac of intention: "every technique, strategy,... used to cover, hide even eliminate stuttering is damned to go wrong over time."
