Thank you for responding to my post. You make an excellent point about cognitive restructuring as the foundation for successful therapy with a client! I also think it is essential for the family to ‘restructure’ their cognition of stuttering. Perhaps metaphors could be an effective tool (for family and therapist) to gain a deeper understanding of the family's perceptions and feelings about stuttering. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have regarding 'cognitive restructuring' for the family of a person who stutters.
