Hi Katie (my newest granddaughter's name! <smile> ),
I've always said that if you want an easy job, become a rocket scientist. If you want a tough job, become an SLP.
Newton's third law of action/reaction works every time, all the time. One simple rule that is the foundation for rocket scientists. We wish it were that simple for SLPs. What works on one client may be a miserable failure on the next. And working below the waterline in the dark where you can't even SEE (or hear!) is really scary. As I said, you nearly have to become as good a psychologist as you do an "fluency" expert.
But DON'T GIVE UP! We need people like you! It's been said that people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. So CARE for your clients. That's probably the most important thing you can do.
Good luck! I hope our paths cross some day.
