Interesting questions. Thank you. Yes, I often either stood on a platform or stasge where I could be seen but most often, I just stood a few yards in front of the crowd so they could see me...and more importantly so I could observe them for crowd reaction (though with such a huge crowd I didn't concentrate on eye contact);it was also helpful for me to be able to see the when/where the jumpers landed and for introductions to the crowd afterwards.
