Hi Howard,

Many apologies for the delay in responding to your comments but I have been away from home (without Internet access).

I certainly believe that persons who stutter could do so much more to create greater public awareness about the problems relating to stuttering. I feel it would be mutually beneficial.

If you wish to involve yourself in such a venture, may I suggest that you read the article (entitled 'Increasing public awareness') that I wrote for the British Stammering Association magazine, 'Speaking Out', a few months ago. It can now be found on the BSA website at:

http://www.stammering.org/increasingawareness.html

With regard to your second point, you are now aware that I have submitted a paper to this ISAD Online Conference about the value of expanding our comfort zones. (Thank you for your contribution to the threaded discussion on that topic).

If you are interested in learning more about the problems that I experienced as a police officer, you may also wish to have sight of the transcript of a speech that I gave to the BSA and NSA Annual Conference/Convention. It can be found at:

http://www.mankato.msus.edu/dept/comdis/kuster/Infostuttering/badmington.pdf (Stuttering Homepage)

http://www.stammer.demon.co.uk/conf2001_alanbadmington/ (BSA website)

And, finally, I served as a police officer in Wales - probably some 250 miles from Northumberland, where you trained with the Royal Fusiliers.

My email address is:

Kindest regards

Alan Badmington
