As a graduate clinician who has utilized both fluency shaping and stuttering modifcation concepts in therapy, I firmly believe that the concepts are limited in their amount of benefit if negativity rules the situation. There can be a cloud of emotions and attitudes that can exist that makes the path to effective communication difficult. Both concepts of treatment have potential for success, however if the person who stutters has scattered showers of negativity, avoidance, and escape lingering throughout the day, true success can not be visualized in the forcast for success.
