Hello, Marija

Thanks for your comments. I am glad you found the paper to be informative.

Gosh !!! Self-absorbed--- and should you be?

Certainly PWS have a degree of this, in that they spend a lot of time thinking and worrying about themselves and their stuttering. They spend lots of time anticipating circumstances in which they will/might stutter. So in this sense, yes-- I think that being self-absorbed and self-centered would apply to many.

But I think it goes further than this because PWS are also concerned about the impact that they and their stuttering will have on the listener, and how they will be perceived by the listener.

So, I guess it goes both ways

As to whether you should be self-absorbed I tend to think that all of us are, to some extent. But hopefully, not to the point of going overboard, and obsessing about it.

Until you asked, I'm afraid I had not thought about it in these terms.

This is an interesting question. The first panel on this internet conference is a panel of university professors. I think you should post this question to them: Office Hours: The Professor Is In.

I hope that others will chime in and give their opinion on this.
