Hello again, Marija

Dialogs are more fun than monologs, so it is my turn again.

If you "bore people to death" with obsessons about stuttering, then this is over doing it. This related to what you said in your 4th paragraph. Mentioning stuttering is a socailly acceptable way, and showing acceptance, etc., is highly appropriate when talking to folks you know who are not PWS. If they want to continue the conversation, this is ok. This is referred to as "topic maintenance" where you continue the topic because both parties are interested. But then you have exhaustd the topic and one person is getting bored, or the other person is monopolizing, then this is when you say "ok-- enuf is enuf." It then becomes time for "topic change" or "discussion terminated."

Talking with other PWS is also a wonderful thing, and this is where support groups can be helpful. I am not sure where you live--- but you might want to check with the National Stuttering Association and see if there is an NSA Chapter near you. NSA has regional workshops throughout the year (e.g, there is one in Madison, Wisconsin, of October 25. I don't have the exact dates handy at the moment, but the Annual NSA Convention is during the third week of June, 2004, in Baltimore. (If there are Canadians reading this, they held a CAPS covention this past summer in Toronto. There are also support groups in Europe, and other parts of the world.)

Contact information for support groups is available on the Stuttering Home Page.

Best wishes,

Steve Hood
