Sharon and John, Thank you for sharing your personal story. We all are faced with challenges throughout our lifetime but your challenges are present every day. What is unknown is when the obsessive behaviors will be triggered and when John will begin to experience the 'stuttery' feelings. The stress and 'stuttery' feelings that result from managing the obsessive behaviors is a prime example of a domino effect. In turn, stress can increase the obsessive behaviors. As a clinician in the school setting, through trial and error a discovery is gradually made as to how to calm the obsessive behaviors exhibited by children with autism. Have you made such a discovery and if you so, what do you think would happen if you were to apply this discovery to the manner of things that increase stress and result in the 'stuttery' feelings?
