Thanks for your comment! Your touching story from 1971 reminds me of an other important thing he/they did, far from stuttering in itself. But it reveals his/their very special talent for timing, the most crucial aspect of therapeutic behavior I know, by the way. See, my father died when I was studying in Kalamazoo and there was a whole ocean away from the place I wanted to and needed to be at that time. Van fixed and helped out with the Immigration and as soon as I stepped into my mom's door in Göteborg, Sweden, I was reached by a telegram from the two wonderful Van Riper's in Portage, with a precisely timed formulation to help me through the moment and the ones to come. Afterwards, I flew gladly back to Michigan again. What was good was the bull's eye hit; polite words would have made me puke I can tell you. No, this was straight in. What it was? Not gonna tell!
