Thank you so much for this insightful article. I am currently taking a class in fluency disorders in graduate school and had not really thought about the reasons behind eye contact aversion in stuttering. This is something that I will definitely consider in the future. One question I have though is what strategies you would use to make distinction between eye contact aversion due to a stuttering moment and eye contact aversion in clients from a culture with different eye contact expectations, such as the Japanese culture, who stutters?
