I found this article to be very informative and helpful. I am currently taking a stuttering class in graduate school and a requirement for my class was to pseudo stutter. I found that both my listener and I definately avoided eye contact while I was stuttering. Although this was not intentional, I noticed that I did it in all three of my experiences. Do you think people always realize they are averting eye contact or is it just an unconscious reaction to an uncomfortable situation? I found your discussion of how maintaining eye contact aids in desensitization to be very valuable since that is such a huge part of what we need to do as clinicians.
