Thank you for your clear explanation of eye contacct aversion. I appreciate your point about helping the client evaluate their own intention regarding eye contact. Making such a decision an active and decisive one on the part of the client can really facilitate the change. The point that clients need something to put in place of the old is also well taken. It is so much harder to stop doing something that has negative consequences. Developing a new pattern to replace the old is a positive and functional choice that probably empowers the client much moreso than the clinician nagging them to 'look at me'.

You have given me much food for thought regarding management of eye contact issues.
