Hi, Walt

I have heard you talk about humor in talks you have given before the National Stuttering Association, and have read what you have written in your text on Clinical Decision Making. I am really pleased to see that you are now sharing your ideas with ISAD.

Stuttering, per se, is neither funny nor humorous. Stuttering is darn serious!!! But as you have pointed out, it is helpful for the PWS to be able to see that some aspects of stuttering can have a humorous component. Being able to acknowledge this can be psychologically helpful. I think that this shows a certain degree of increased acceptance rather than denial. Someone once said that "Humor and anxiety cannot sleep in the same bed" and I think there is a lot of truth in this. Humor can help to counter condition some of the negative emotions of stuttering.

Thanks for sharing your perspectives on this.
