Dr. Manning, I was very impressed by your article and avidly support your position on using humor as part of treatment. I believe humor is useful in so many aspects of life! Do you try to also encourage the parents to use humor in the home as part of treatment. While clinicians need to maintain the balance of structure and humor in therapy, the parents at home should do the same. I, as a parent, would want to know how to use humor effectively to help my child. It would also make me feel better to help my child laugh and get through a moment of stuttering without so much anxiety.
