Larry, Thank you for a well done article. I am taking my first course in neurobiology using as text Kolb and Whishaw (2003) “Fundamentals of Human Neuropsychology (5th ed.). I would highly recommend this text, because it allowed me to understand all of the article and know physically what part of brain or which process you were talking about. I would recommend it to even those who do not want to systematically study neurobiology, because each of the terms appears in the index and the book is very well written. So it can be used as a reference book. (Fourth edition of the same book was a real pain! Don’t buy it!) I would only want to add one caveat. Those of my professors who have used Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Albert Ellis who uses Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)to treat social phobia caution using drugs in the absence of changing cognitions for two reasons: 1) the drugs alone do not appear to be as effective as when used together with CBT and/or REBT and 2) we have no studies of the long term effect of these drugs. The safe route would be to try these drugs for stuttering in combination with CBT and REBT because the medical and/or research community have NO knowledge what are the side effects of these drugs after decades of usage. The brain is very sensitive. Thanks again for the well written article. Respectfully, Gunars
