This article is so true! I have dealt with so many preschoolers that experience disfluencies. As I tell parents, there are indicators to look for which can indicate chronicity of stuttering, but I do not have a crystal ball to make a definitive diagnosis. I always air on the side of cautiousness and generally treat the children, even if it is only once a week. Because I work in a public-school, parents are not financially drained, yet I am ensuring that early intervention is attained. I have found that the students who "grow out of the stuttering" can be easily dismissed and they are not "harmed" or "traumatized" from receiving my services.
