Reading your article was very interesting and thought provoking. I have just recently began seeing a child that on his initial evaluation from another clinician was described as "a severe stutterer with many secondary characteristics". He is 4 years old and on his initial session with me used a few syllable reduplications and prolongations in spontaneous speech. Each session after he has shown little or no dysfluencies. When contacting his preschool teacher she has said that she notices "a very little bit of stuttering when he gets excited". Mom has not noticed stuttering anymore. I have had discussions with other SLP's about this case. Do we often rush to evaluate preschoolers and at what point and how quickly does a child get discharged from therapy. He will say to me that he no longer has "bumps" in his speech.
