You are quire correct in saying that I was talking about preschoolers in my article. That is the age group with which we have conducted our research in the Lidcombe Program. There is now considerable evidence from the Illinois research and from other sources that children are very unlikely to recover from stuttering naturally, once they leave the preschool years. It also seems that treatment becomes less effective as children pass through the school-age years. So, my answer is No! I don’t believe that wait-and-see is an option for older children.
