These are very pertinent questions. The information on natural recovery coming from the work of Dr. Yairi and his colleagues in Illinois is where you should look for your answers. I urge you consult their original reports, which appear predominantly in the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research. As far as natural recovery is concerned, your chances are better if you are a girl. Having a relative who has recovered from stuttering is also a good sign. On the other hand, the likelihood of stuttering becoming chronic of course increases the longer the child has been stuttering.
