We know from research into the Lidcombe Program that drawing attention to stuttering—-at least in the context of that Program—-does not make stuttering worse, indeed the opposite is the case. However, as you say, it must be done in a positive and supportive way. Even then, there are some children who do not like having attention drawn to their stuttering in the Lidcombe Program and the clinician must be vigilant for this.

It is not in my brief here to discuss the merits of various treatments for preschoolers. I would simply urge you to seek out the evidence for the various treatments that appear in the literature.
